hello august! life update & adoption shirts
WOW. Where did the summer go, like seriously I felt like just yesterday Cody and I were taking our students to Beach Camp and sending off Kevin to go to China for the summer, and just two days ago we picked him back up from the airport to get him ready for his Junior year of high school.
C R A Z Y!
We have so much going on at the Mather House we wanted to send out a little August Update and let y'all know where we are in the adoption process.
Cody and I have been on an incredible journey the last couple of months. We started our home study process in April and by June it was complete (we loved working with Karen from New Beginnings, she understood that summer's were our busiest season as youth pastors and she made it her goal to help us knock it out before summer hit!) and then we just had to wait on the state to legalize our paperwork so we could then send that off to our consultant. If you didn't know this already, Cody and I felt it would be best our first time adopting to use a consultant. We reached out to other families who had adopted before for wisdom, and across the board they suggested that would be the best option for us. AND WE TOTALLY AGREE. FAC has been wonderful to work with, and very organized (so that makes me very happy) as I am typing this right now we are still waiting to become A C T I V E-- (which means mommas are able to view our file/profile to possibly pick us to be their childs parents.) But don't you worry, we will be announcing this as soon as we know, because we will need ALL OF YOU to be praying. Cody and I believe in the power of prayer and will need anyone willing to join us.
Like I mentioned before Kevin is home and getting ready to start his JR year of High School! (WHERE DOES TIME EVEN GO FOR REAL?!) I can't believe he moved in with us 3 years ago. Kevin is spunky, outgoing, loves him some Jesus and has mad yo-yo skills. He also is a clean freak like his American Momma and honestly brings Cody and I more laughs than we can sometimes even handle. If you are new around here, Kevin is an exchange student who we met in Texas and when we moved for Cody's job, wanted to move with us. We couldn't have been more thrilled because we love Kevin as our own. So here we are all finally back together and getting ready to kick off the new year! Kevin spent his summer studying preparing himself for college, (over achiever) and his family took a trip to Israel! He had the best time, said he rubbed Dead Sea mud on his face, but for me to never try that because it didn't feel very good. HA!
For the month of August our friends over at August Cloth picked us as their family to receive the funds that they raise for families looking to grow their family through adoption. If you don't already know I team up with August Cloth regularly to show off their incredible clothes, but the owner Crystal is my favorite part. She started August Cloth around adoption, she is the momma to two incredible boys, one of them being adopted in August of 2014. So that's why August is such a big deal for them, and why August Cloth even exists. They will do this for a family every year and I can't wait until next August when I can share for a NEW family. Mmm Jesus is good y'all. It gives me the chills to think about how I met Crystal, how I partner with her now for August Cloth, and how she has mentored, cheered, hugged, and supported me the last couple of months. I feel like I've known her for years, and I am so incredibly thankful to call her friend. She is the real deal.
